AT&T is notorious for only allowing Wi-Fi calling on THEIR branded Android phones (not unlocked phones from any other carrier). You will only get 3g which is now going extinct, making the Verizon flavor worthless for anything, since it is no longer even compatible with VERIZON!!! The same scam is being used with 5G.a T-Mobile 5G will never get AT&T 5g (although still can get 4G). Verizon is the sells the S5 "unlocked" but it is worthless on other carriers since the LTE bands for them are not engaged. You now discovered the scam phone companies are pulling.each one "cripples" the model to favor THEIR flavor of it. What are the rules that apply to these different kinds of unlocked phones, where can those rules be found, and how can I determine what kind of unlocked phone that I have? I have no idea where the seller got the phone. I got it on Ebay and the box might have come through Samsung or it might have come from AT&T. I think mine is the latter but do not know for sure. With respect to unlocked phones, there are at least three kinds, a T-Mobile GSM phone that works on the AT&T network, a locked AT&T phone sold by an AT&T store and unlocked by AT&T, a phone made by Samsung, apparently sold by Samsung unlocked, but with the AT&T logo and with AT&T software, including various AT&T apps that you cannot uninstall.

Why don't I see any VoLTE settings? Is something wrong with my phone? Does AT&T need to do something to turn it on on my phone? Do I need a software update to get it? Might I live in an area where AT&T doesnþt support VoLTE?

Postings on the net abound saying how to turn it off and on. Yet I can find no settings for VoLTE anywhere in my phone. That too was years ago, and my S5 has Android 6. Is VoLTE now today a standard on the network? When 27 million people had it 5 years ago, you would think everyone on the network would have it by now.Īnother post above said the S5 got VoLTE with Android 4.4.4.

The AT&T President quoted above boasted in 2015 that the VoLTE network reached 27 million AT&T subscribers. Will or will not my phone work after the cutoff?

These documents together seem to say that a locked S5 will work after 2020 but that an unlocked one will not? Is that correct? That doesn’t sound right. It listed Samsung devices that supported HD Voice. It looks like it doesn’t support it.Įntitled “Service capabilities for your unlocked device”

I could not find any VoLTE settings on my device to turn it off and on. I discovered today that my phone IMEI returned incompatible with T-Mobile. I never received a notice to the contrary from AT&T.

The article had a link to a PDF document with the title “Phones that will work on the AT&T network after 2/2022." The AT&T document stated, “4G wireless devices that don’t support HD Voice will no longer work on our network.” TMobile made a like announcement for 2020. I think all of the AT&T S5s that I saw for sale were unlocked.ĪT&T recently announced it was dropping phones without VoLTE in February, 2022, “Get ready, 3G is going away in 2022,” It was the last flagship model from Samsung with a user replaceable battery, which I have replaced several times. It came AT&T branded and starts with an AT&T logo and jingle.
